Here I am with my new buck saw
from Lehman’s. We have several trees down in the very back of our lot, and we’re trying to clear all this out before spring. A chain saw would make quick work of this. However, as you can tell from my technique in the photo, it might also make quick work of limbs other than from trees. Actually, I used to have a chainsaw, but Debbie has ruled that I am no longer eligible for one since I used it as a hedge trimmer. Long story.
But, this buck saw from Lehman’s — the folks who supply the Amish — is great. Actually, it’s made by the Amish out of very nice wood (hickory, I think) with a wide blade that doesn’t deflect as you cut. I first bought a bow saw, but the blade on it turned as you cut thick trunks. Okay for limbs, but not heavy duty enough for cutting firewood. So, I ordered the buck saw and I’m very pleased with it. About $50 from Lehman’s. Made in the USA. Powered by human effort, zero carbon emissions. No moving parts, except your arm. Love these simple things!
Oh, I also ordered a Dietz lantern. Our power went out last week, and all we had were candles and a burned out flashlight. I’ll let you know when it comes in. Stay simple.

My brother lives in Kidron, Ohio and one highlight of our every visit is a trip to Lehman’s. Great store, fascinating assortment of items, and very nice people.
The new blog also looks great!
