When you’re looking around for ways to save money and become more self-sufficient, nothing is sacred. In my many haircutting experiences, I have paid anywhere from $8 (buzz cut) to $65 (I know, that was ridiculous) for a haircut. Usually it wasn’t worth it — even the $8 one. Which is why we decided that we would try cutting our own hair. Actually, I wanted Debbie to cut mine; she has not returned the request despite my assurances that I could cut hers. But, that’s another story. Today I was due for a haircut, and so I got one. It all starts with the finest equipment:
The comb, scissors, and brush cost us maybe $15 total, and that is the extent of our professional equipment. Next, the lovely and talented Debbie, hairstylist to the stars:
As you can see, the salon is luxurious, well-appointed, lots of natural light. Plus, no appointment was necessary. I just asked Debbie, “Can you cut my hair this afternoon?” To which she replied, “Sure.” Easy. Plus, Debbie cutting my hair saves us $18 per month, and the time it takes to go to the stylist. Our salon never closes. But, you might wonder how this all turned out. Here’s the finished product:
Okay, so the subject isn’t much, but he has nice hair, wouldn’t you agree? Disclaimer: Debbie is not a trained cosmetologist. Despite the warnings of professionals, we tried this anyway. Total savings per year after supplies: $201. Plus, I get to kiss the stylist. (For those of you just joining us, we’re married. Thought I might need to tell you that.) Stay simple.
