Seedlings are up!
March 31, 2008 by Chuck Warnock
Debbie planted three trays of seeds about 2 weeks ago, and already several seedlings are up! The “big” seedlings in the foreground are cucumbers, so they’re coming right along. The second tray has tomatoes — 3 varieties — and so far we have 72 plants in one tray. All of them sprouted, so we will have plenty of tomatoes this year. Of course we have a long way to go before the first tomato sandwich, but we’re optimistic. We planted slicing tomatoes (2 varieties), salad tomatoes, and canning tomatoes (a plum tomato). Our hope is to can enough tomatoes to see us through until harvest in 2009. We do eat a lot of tomatoes in sauces, soups, stews, salads, and with pasta. Today the high temperature was 46F. Not spring yet, but it’s coming! Stay simple.
